A quiet place to think clearly about what matters in your business
Pennyroyal Counsel works with owners and leaders on the questions that deserve careful attention — succession, values, and the ongoing work of leading well.
Three ways to work together
Each engagement is structured to match the nature of the question it addresses. Nothing is open-ended for its own sake; nothing is rushed when the matter deserves time.
Specimen No. 1
Succession Thinking Engagement
For owners who have begun considering what comes next — whether that involves family, internal leaders, or the owner's own evolving role. Six weeks of structured, confidential conversations. A written summary of what emerges.
- Covers financial, relational, and personal dimensions
- No commitment to any particular path required
- Entirely confidential, six-week span
Specimen No. 2
Values Articulation Work
For organisations that want to describe what they genuinely value — not aspirational language for a website, but the values that actually show up in decisions and behaviour. Four weeks, interviews across the organisation, a clear resulting document.
- Interviews and observation across the team
- Honest description, not marketing copy
- Four-week engagement
Specimen No. 3
Thinking Partner Arrangement
A quiet, ongoing arrangement for leaders who value having a consistent, confidential person to think alongside. Monthly two-hour conversations, in person or remote. No agenda beyond what the leader brings. Month-to-month after an initial three-month period.
- Monthly two-hour sessions
- In person (Bangkok) or remote
- Month-to-month after initial term
What distinguishes this kind of work
Business consulting can take many forms. The engagements here are designed for a particular kind of owner or leader — one who finds value in careful thinking over quick answers.
Complete Confidentiality
Every conversation stays between us. No case studies drawn from your situation without explicit permission. No network of referrals built on your private matters.
No Predetermined Answers
The work begins with careful listening, not a pre-packaged framework. What emerges comes from the specific situation — not from a methodology looking for a place to land.
Written Clarity
Engagements that produce documents do so with care. The writing is intended to remain useful — something to return to, not a report filed away after the final meeting.
Appropriate Pace
Some questions take time to answer honestly. The engagements are designed around the natural rhythm of reflection, not around filling a calendar or justifying a timeline.
Bangkok-Based, Regionally Aware
The work is grounded in Bangkok's business environment. Family-owned businesses, foreign-founded enterprises, and regional organisations each bring their own particular context.
One Working Relationship
You work with one person throughout. There are no junior staff doing the background work, no handoffs partway through an engagement. The person you speak with at the outset is the person you work with throughout.
Is there a question worth sitting with?
A first conversation is simply a conversation. There is no obligation and no pitch. If the work seems like it might be useful, we can discuss what an engagement would look like. If not, we part on good terms.
Frequently asked
How does a first conversation work?
We speak for around thirty to forty-five minutes — by phone, video, or in person in Bangkok. The conversation is informal. You describe what's on your mind; I describe how the relevant engagement typically unfolds. Neither of us is committed to anything at that stage.
Are the engagements truly confidential?
Yes, without qualification. Nothing discussed in an engagement is shared, referenced, or used in any form outside of it. This applies to all three engagement types. There is no exception for interesting cases or teachable moments.
Do I need to have a clear question in mind before reaching out?
Not at all. Many people approach this work with something more like a feeling than a question — a sense that something important deserves more attention than day-to-day operations allow. That is a perfectly reasonable starting point.
What if I'm not sure which engagement is right?
A first conversation will usually clarify this. The three engagements address distinct kinds of questions, and in practice it becomes clear which one fits. Sometimes the answer is to start with one and move to another — that is entirely possible.
Are sessions conducted in English or Thai?
Primarily in English. Written summaries are produced in English. If a degree of Thai language support is needed at any stage, that can be discussed — the work itself, however, is conducted in English.
How are fees handled?
Fees for the Succession Thinking and Values Articulation engagements are paid at the start of the engagement. The Thinking Partner arrangement is billed monthly. Payment is by bank transfer. All amounts are in US dollars as listed, unless another arrangement is agreed in advance.
Can the Thinking Partner arrangement be paused?
After the initial three-month period, the arrangement is month-to-month and can be ended with one month's notice. There is no penalty for stopping. Many leaders find that the rhythm of the work continues to be valuable over a longer period, but that is entirely for the leader to decide.
